Subtacks
I feel like I didn’t read enough substacks this week, so I apologize for not being very active. School has been draining me, and I find myself too tired to read during my free time. However, the times I have been able to dive into blog posts have been so lovely. The app is incredible <3
I want to eat
’s words and also maybe carve them into my skin. This is exactly what it means to me to be a writer and I’m so so happy that this beautiful piece of writing put into words what is true in my life. Obsessed.
What I love the most are blogs that say what I’ve felt in the past, but have never been able to put my finger on and say it myself. So grateful to Grace of
for the eloquence with which this is written <3 definitely go check it out.
I listened to Nothing New and tried not to cry while reading
’s words. Absolutely beautiful.
Obsessed with
’s idea of Substack as a notebook—it truly is like a journal that you can share with people. Also, I went into this post expecting a normal, short intro post and was pleasantly surprised to get so much more than that. I’m excited to see what this blog produces in the future <3
I want to feel the rage, not just store it away for my writing.
saw the reality of this world and then put it into words in a way I admire so strongly. This is true and raw and beautiful, and I’m so happy to have found this blog. This is the first I’ve read of
, and I love the way it feels as though I’m truly having a conversation with the writer. They are incredible at making the reader feel like we’re a part of it, and I love it! Definitely go give it a read.
okay this is it I’m sorry there’s so little! I’ll be making it a goal over the next week to discover new blogs, partly for my own delight and partly so I can have more recommendations when next Saturday comes around! Sending love to each of these beautiful authors.
Youtube Videos
This is the very first of D’Angelo’s videos that popped up on my feed, and throughout the week I’ve really enjoyed watching his commentary videos, so definitely go check those out. The reason I linked this one is because of the sheer emotion it caused me. Everything he says is raw, painful, and vulnerable. If you feel stuck in your unhappiness, this will hurt and heal you.
Books
Funny Story by Emily Henry - I finished this book on Sunday night, and it was really fun! I read Beach Read a while ago, so this was my second Emily Henry book, and I was not disappointed. It was funny and romantic, but also surprisingly emotional. I will admit that I’m easy to please when it comes to fun romcoms with cartoon covers, so I understand that some people didn’t enjoy it as much, but I do recommend it.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh - Oh my goodness this book. I haven’t been enamored with a book in way too long, so it was so much fun to buy this book on Tuesday evening and finish it on Wednesday night. As a former book-obsessed child, whenever I binge-read a book it makes me feel like how I used to be. The storytelling is just SO GOOD. And the characters are amazing as well—I love the way the book follows multiple people at the same time. It was exciting and incredible and I can’t believe I don’t have the sequel with me. I ordered it as soon as I finished, but I couldn’t justify buying the fast shipping, so it will be here on Monday <3 Pray for me.
Movies
I watched one movie this week, and it was the new book-turned-movie Uglies. I read the book a while back, as did my mom and sister, so we watched it together. It’s… not great. But then again, neither was the book. I feel as though the movie did get it mostly right. The scenery was almost exactly how I had imagined it, which was cool, and although they skipped over a few things and added a few others, it mostly made sense for the movie. My main issue? Tally is so annoying. Again, book accurate. I still have no idea how David fell in love with her.
Music
Truly, I haven’t listened to any new music this week. I’ve been in a haze, and when I listen to music I let my old comforts wrap around me. Lots of Billie Eilish, boygenius, and Sleeping At Last. There is a song that my sister showed me last night that reminds me a lot of Paris Paloma’s music. It’s called The Doll People by Sofia Isella, and it has a chill to it that I love. But that’s it for new music, sorry about that :)
Keeping this short and sweet since anatomy and physiology has been sucking the life out of me <3 I hope you check out anything that seemed unfamiliar, and that through this post you’ll find some of your new favorite things!! I love each and every one of you.
As a warning, I’m pretty sure that tomorrow’s post will be late. I have about five half-finished drafts waiting for my procrastination to die down, but I can’t promise that will happen before midnight tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who came back from last week, and thank you to everyone new!
With love, Tess The Willow Archive
